Workin again

Alright here we go again. Busy busy. I say it twice for these reasons. My body is busy and my Mind is busy. sadly in two different things. So let me go into more detail on those things.


First of all my body is busy because. I have been with my dad working on his apartments first 3 weeks was just ripping out walls and things from the wall, doing some electrical things too. I got to deal with the heaters and there wiring. then starting last week and this week has been putting up new walls in the kitchen which has turned up looking quite nice. Its great to get to see clean tidy results after a good hard days work. It becomes more difficult to do because my dad and I sadly think exactly alike during work. Now you people probably don't understand why I say sadly. But its because both of us are used to just taking the orders and doing. For my dad he has to learn to be the one leading in removing and giving me things to do with him. And since he has that I have to learn to be able to see things before he has to say anything and get to it. So in the end we're both doing things we aren't normal to do. Plus neither of us are used to holding up heavy 10 footer pieces of sheet-rock to the roof while the other is trying to put the screws in to be less stress. Man I never realized those muscles were even there..... >_< Another sad thing is not having the right tools. Like lacking of processing the right saw for sheet-rock and having to use a normal utility knife for each cut.


Now to the second thing. My mind is far into and unto the idea of future. Trying to piece things together. From schooling to work to home to other people in my life to car to license to remember I need to trust in God for each of them to work out and be willing to follow through with how he will bring it about in me. Too many big questions and very important choices to be made and then to realize life will only bring more and more of those kinds of questions. Talk about brain traffic-jam. Thankfully hitting a stop light does mean eventually the light will turn green and I can go forward again. Anyway that's it for now, Gotta go back to work.

Bouncing in my head

The feeling of being home came to me as a cough and a slight head ache, Followed by great meals, family company, and a fuzzy kitty. I spent the last 2 weeks with the Newton's at Maranatha camp, and they're family reunion. Which was both a good time of blessing and teaching to me. I word of praise from me is that Sarah was brought home early from her trip, and we "whole group here in Cornwall" could enjoy her company for an extra month. It was quite nice to be accepted by each of the newtons relatives as family. While at Maranatha I was touched by the services in realizing just how much the world is getting into my life and God is working in me to change that. I know this is short, but its an update, and I as I said have a head ache and am leaving for church soon. So too bad for you 15 page daily news readers. :D

Things of late

Well hello again and all that. At the present moment I'm at the newtons house, looking for something to do, and decided I put up an update on what things have been going on of late.


First of all. In 5 days is my birthday. So I'm rather hoping to get several things. I know a screw driver set would be needed for the future, as would a pliers set. I would like a certain book, and my brother and I are going to be looking into getting a scoped pellet gun :)

Second of all. I am also looking forward to is a hike in august. As a late birthday present. due to what it next on my list of things I'm looking forward to.

Third is I'm looking forward to July, for not only will I be going with the newtons to maranatha, But also I'll be able to see Sarah again.

Fourth this list is rather small and not really put a lot of information into it, but that's okay I guess. Depends who I'm talking to on that subject. I've been keeping up with the same breathing problem, tho it does seem to be better then before which is an answer to prayer. I do hope it goes away completely, soon if not tomorrow. Another odd thing, every bus that passes me seems to be filled with kids who find humour in pointing, laughing, and yelling random things out at me.

Now I'm answering questions of lizzy and tim who are wondering what every button on the laptop does, including making me push 3,X and L. the next sentence will be what tim wants me to write. tim. apparently he only wanted me to type his name, how he first said 3 and then x and then L, I dont know.

Another thing is, this family seems to enjoy taking tons of pictures, majority of the ones I've seen this time, if not all the pics taken, were of me sadly enough. Also I know what its like to have kids all around me. I don't know how you do it Sarah. I think I can handle it, but not daily. oh well I guess it could get funny. Elijah just sent me a picture of you having to deal with this very thing, so I guess I'll put it on here, I dont think they took one of my being crowded but oh well.

Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. For he longer after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.


These verse's I find to be the most needed in today's time, now with this study I'm only going over 1-11, If i was to write up my study on the whole chapter I wouldn't have time to finish other things today.

First Point: God's love and work in the Christian: verse 1

Ok so look to verse 1 again: If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the spirit, in any bowels and mercies.

In this verse is written the terms, If you are a christian you should have these things, the Consolation in Christ, the comfort of Love, the fellowship of the spirit, the bowels and mercies. For those who don't know of the meaning where it says bowels: it means figuratively pity or sympathy, inward affection, tender mercy.

For those reading this if you don't have these things in your life you better check up. The Bible states that those who Love him will obey his commandments, and those who obey his commandments are in fellowship with him, and as verse 13 states: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. He will teach you during your times of fellowship. and the Bible also states that we are to pray without ceasing, rejoice evermore. so those right with God will have that fellowship all day long! all life long! Colossians 3:16 says Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Each of these things listed in verse 1 of Philippians 2 are graces from God, Colossians 1:23 and 27 says: verse 23: If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister. verse 27: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: And to confirm to everyones mind read verse 16-17 as well: For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were create by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. A word to those Christian's hold fast the faith, keep your first love, don't deny his name.


Now on to the second point Verse's 2-5: Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.

How many of us Christian's today are likeminded? how many of us have the same love? how many are according to one mind? How many of us Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory? How many of us in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better then themselves? How many of us Look not on our own things? and on the things of others? LET this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus. I think just about everyone of us (including me) has somewhere failed in this list. Be honest with yourselves, search your hearts, pray to God to search your heart. Remember Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ Jesus which strengtheneth me. Your not alone in Life. Don't think these things are impossible, for in Christ all things are possible. So stand in faith believing his Word, Go forward and obey these things written.
And while you go about doing these things, Don't look at failures as huge loss's because satan will use it to pull you down, Remember its God that gently leads, its satan drives us to do things, and he will drive you right into depression. Look to the cross, Look to the blood that was split for unworthy sinners as your self. Remember God never lies. all His promises have come true. Read verse 5 again, Let this mind be in you, which was *also* in Christ Jesus. so read the gospels, read of his faithfulness, the Holy Son of God, who humbled himself to the cross.

Which brings us to the last point, Verse's 5-11: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. First I'd like to look at what kind of God we are talking about. The one and only God, in which there is none other, He who has no ears hears all, who with no eyes sees all, with no body knows and guides each one of us with his arm, and his in hands he holds us and keeps us. He who made the world and preordained everything to happen in this world from beginning to end, for every single life, every single thought and word and deed. He who has the wisdom to know what each one of us needs and to hold each of his sheep away from those of the world and those false teachers, gainsayers and scoffers. He who sent his only begotten Son to come and die for a world that isn't even worthy to call his name. Who kept his Word written and safe for 6000+ years and still has a place and a work to do through it, who knew all along what words that needed to be kept, who saw each of our needs before all the world was created, before time even was. That thrice Holy God is who we serve, and are to live for with all our heart soul and mind and very being, to do all things whole heartily as unto Him, that none of his grace would be taken for granted, that His name would be proclaimed through each of our lives. as the King and ruler of all the earth and heavens. He it is who sent His Son, that Son who obeyed and humbled himself even to the cross, for such wretched sinners as our selves. So that God's name would be exalted, and because of that God's son was exalted and his Name put above all other. And that through him that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

To think that Christ would become a man! to have the likeness to sinful being as us, to lower himself from the throne of Glory to this sin filled world. To die for US. WOW....
What more can I say.... I think I'll let Jesus do the rest of the teaching from these verse's. I pray that each of your lives would be turned from sin unto Him. That you purpose to serve him in all aspects of your life, to be as holy as holy can be.

Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God. These things write I that ye sin not, and if any man sin. we have a advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Over View

Hello everyone once again, my apologies for the lack of written words on this blog, I haven't been the best health wise or have had other things on my mind and things to do or get done. anyway I plan on writing more on here.

Pretty soon I will have a new study that I'm working on written on here. I can think of many but I like to leave some ideas for backup in case asked to speak at youth-group. I haven't had much on the poems to my mind of late so I'm hoping God brings more to my mind to write up.

Since I've written last, I've had many ups and downs but over all the greatest victory so far in my christian life, I've gotten over and cleaned up a sin that has been bothering my mind and making it more worldly. I praise God for those he placed to help me through that, as well as those teachers and pastors who helped me with services even tho they didn't know it while they preached. I've since then been having more and more victory over each sin, dealing with them, getting right with everyone. reading my Bible more, praying more often, and for longer periods of time. Each and every day I've got some hymn or scripture song going through my head. Verse's reminding me of God's love and his commandments that I not take his Love and mercy for granted. God's brought more times where my knowledge has been put to use in helping others. I can only pray that for all that knowledge I have, that I will also hold to the wisdom my self. Live what I say. Even tho this cold has still been bothering me, the physical asthma, I'm still holding up and God is still giving my the grace to go through each day rejoicing.

I have been praying a good bit on the future, for where I should go, what teaching should I go for, what jobs would I do, and what kind of life I'm leading for others as an example. I only pray that through my life and example other will learn, and realize its better to listen to example and learn, then learn by experience and have the thoughts haunt you the rest of your life.

A Christian Home

Ezekiel 6:1-14

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them, And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God; Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken: and I will cast down your slain men before your idols. And I will lay the dead carcasses of the children of Israel before their idols: and I will scatter your bones round about altars. In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate; that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished. And the slain shall fall in the midst of your, and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered throught the countries. And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe them selves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them. Thus saith the Lord God; Smite with thine hand, and stamp with thy foot, and say alas for all the evil abominations of the houses of Israel! for they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. He that is far off shall die of pestilence; and he that is near shall fall by the sword and he that remaineth and is besieged shall die by the famine: thus will I accomplish my fury upon them. Then shall ye know that I am the LORD, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they did offer sweet savour to all their idols. So will I stretch out my hand upon them, and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate then the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations: and they shall know that I am the LORD.


A great many times, the phase comes up. and they will know that I am the LORD. Also all threw out the Old testament this phase comes up. The Jews know what he meant when that was said. That meant The One True God, all powerful, all knowing, is in charge. Not them. God isn't like any other gods or those we think up. Psalm 96: 4-8 tells us that gods are just Idols. that have eyes but see not, that have ears, but hear not, that are useless to everyone. God on the other hand, has no eyes, but sees all, has no ears but hears all, has no body and is everywhere, has no head but wears the Crown, has no legs but sits on a throne. Nobody is like our God. No other god has kept there people threw each struggle, who has righteously judged his people, kept his Word. neither has he removed them from the World, he's protecting them keeping them threw his power. And this passage I just wrote clearly tells us that he is just, he is holy, he is not going to tolerate sin. Also says there that he is going to keep a remnant of his people for the last day, when he will bring Jerusalem back together and set up his kingdom.

Well lets go to psalm 100:1-5

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are this people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.


There's so much written there in such a little chapter about the LORD. Make a Joyful noise, Serve the Lord with gladness: We are to sing unto him, giving praise ever, as it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Rejoice EVERMORE, pray WITHOUT ceasing, in EVERYTHING give thanks. and also note at the end of it, ALL ye lands everyone everywhere is called to praise him. Because he is Holy, He is Just, and as we will see later on his other works.

Then the Next point: Know ye that the LORD He IS GOD it is He that has made us and not we our selves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Right there should tell us all Christians, that he deserves all honour, all praise, all glory. In Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. and also chapter 5:12-13b saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. Blessing and honour and glory and power be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. So we see that God is worthy, and that HE is the LORD.


For the LORD is good; and his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations: that right there also states that he is and has and always will be in charge of the world, and everything that happens in it. His word stands and will always be true, to all generations. so we know that the same God that kept his people, and kept his nation, is still today with love and mercy watching over us



Here in these chapters is written each thing that the Jews knew to be true, and yet turned from him, what are you Christian, who has a better way and understanding then that of the Jews had, going to spend your life. will you also turn away, or go fully after him as the psalmist did, and love him with all your heart soul and mind.

Well today started rather rainy, but that doesn't stop hockey soooo.... still happy :D I got to cancel the bothersome asthma attack test thingy, one reason is the only point in having it is to find out the intensity of my asthma but I already know why and what it is and does so I don't care to waste an hour attached to a machine getting stuff put into me that just makes the same thing happen when I'm exercising. two I really don't like having to go really anywhere on a day I don't have work lol. Friends and such are different. At the moment I'm waiting for food, its 6 o clock and I'm pretty amazed its this late. either that or they forgot I am in the basement.


Well there was my 25 minute pause for eating. and they hadn't forgot about me, just happened to have all the food ready at 5:15 and had a phone call for was talking for about 40 minutes and then had to reheat it all. all in all it still tasted good.
The weather and sunset I always love to see

Hockey today was pretty sweet we had a lot of older people there and really good stacked up teams. probably one of my favorite hockey games. Along with that note Habs have won each game so far. woot!

Doctor Appointment

The Doctor said to me that I have physical asthma. asthma that only kicks in when doing something physical. So I'm going to be getting a puffer to take before anything exerting. and I also have to get a chest Xray, blood test, and a breathing test at the hospital. lol that sounds more serious to me then it is. anyway hopfully this will resolve the problem.

Wisdom

If we look into Ecclesiastes thru out the whole thing as well as Proverbs, we run into a lot on Wisdom, those here who don't want to be of the company of fools heed the words of the preacher, I just want to say this *will* bother some people. But remember in corinthians 6:9-11 states such were some of you. Thank God for the "were" some of you. He will teach and help each of us to learn from these things.


The first time the word wisdom is found in the book of Ecclesiastes is verse 13, talking about himself. as we know him to be the wisest of man(besides the Lord Jesus). It says in verse 13: "and I gave my heart to seek and to search wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven this sore travail hath God given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith".
Heh.. no one said it's easy right? well heres solomon the wisest of man saying its hard. whats that tell us today? That means don't go about it thinking you're going to just learn it. or that you will do better then those before. and if we don't seek God for the wisdom to understand then we won't ever get it. Proverbs 16:3 says

Proverbs 16:3

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.


Now look back to the verse, it said "to seek and to search after wisdom", you know what that means? that means if we don't search or thinking we need wisdom, if we don't go for it. whats that make us? fools. Now before you start throwing stones. realize I'm not speaking out of highness but what God is teaching to me and thru me. I'm part of this group. So I can say this is preaching to me. Now also remember in this lesson. I'm not raising up Solomon higher then God. He is still a man like us. we all have our falls. as solomon did.We find out later in the books of the kings that Solomon was overcome with many wives and there gods, so don't let you're guard down. Back to the main point tho. As someone seeking out wisdom, dont be content with just the wisdom you have now. You can't sit back and let pride say "I know all I need to know". Because we see those who think they know everything are some of the first people to fall into pride and as I said before, being part of the company of fools. Also know this is more then just wanting to know more then the next guy. But you can set a goal to be like one of the wise men of old. those are good goals to set. but as I said before don't be content with the knowledge you have, and think you're one of the people that is a goal for others. because those who think they know it all are the fools. Yes God will use your knowledge to inspire others but that doesn't mean that you need to go around pointing out you're self as some great person. Proverbs 16 and 27 tells us about that.

Proverbs 16:5

Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished

Proverbs 27:1-2

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

A good thing for people to look at in proverbs says that the wise man looks at every point or seeks to understand each side of things, every angle. Make sure you look into the full thing of a problem, make sure each part of a buildings plans are set, make sure each part of your families needs are met and lives are right with one another.

Now lets look at Ecclesiastes again. In verse 2,14,18. We read in verse 2 Vanity of Vanities all is Vanity. In verse 14 is Behold all is Vanity and a Vexation of the Spirit. Then in verse 18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. You say "get me out of here this is to hard". I say read the middle part of verse 14. The works that are done under the sun. Now what do you suppose that means? that means anything not of God. So if you're life isn't under his rule, your life is vanity. it's living for self, which we know won't last or matter in the end. Remember the verse. All have come short of the glory of God. None can do right without God. If you're not living for him you're wasting your life away in your own wants to your own destruction. We still know God uses the lost to teach His sheep. or use them in some way to wake us up. but they are still fit for destruction.

Now lets look at verse 4 of Ecclesiastes.

Ecclesiastes 1:4

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth forever.

So Fathers, Mothers, Grandparents. is your generation wise. Is it living for Christ. can you walk thru out town and not have to cover your eyes at sin. can you look at people without a pain in your heart for them, cause you know there saved. if not why can't you do something about it? your own self is the only thing stopping you. there is no other excuse. and if you are old or can't get out to witness to others. then you better make sure your children are fit for it. teach them, instruct them. don't let them go into the world like everyone else did and get lost in the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. because then your own children become an abomination to God. and as the parents your the ones responsible for them. some day your going to give an account for your children. Men it's your very position to lead the family. if your family doesn't have its bible times. it's family times. prayer. singing. your family isn't going to grow right. it won't have the right element of God's love left in your children. also do they see the joy and peace in your life from God. or is it something they see as something you dread teaching. God teaches his Church. and his own words are there to teach them. You as fathers are supposed to use that same word to teach your families. because God has the best way and it works in his Church it will work in your families. God will use it in there lives to save. Who are we to limit the outcome of works blessed by God to mans level of knowledge thinking possible. God is all powerful. all mighty, all knowing. don't you think he knows what he's doing if he can control the whole world at the same time? Hallelujah he is in control not man. He who made the world and everything in it is in control of each detail. study his works and use them to teach others in the same way. then stand back and image the vastness of his wisdom and power. the God who kept this world together and his precious word each step thru history to teach us of times to come and how we are to act. and even this statement is only a pinch of his power. I could spend all day explaining this and still not even come close to really touching the vastness of His glory.

The next verse that I felt I should speak about is verse 9. The phase "there is no new thing under the sun" comes up. what that means is things of the past will happen again. to different degrees of course with different means. but same general happening and style of it happening with the same solution to fix them. hey think that means by learning the past you gain insight on the future. and you know how to protect your self from happenings. and we can learn from all history things that happened and know that God is in control so what can we learn from it, to keep us safe today. Also another thing is parents your kids are going to follow some of the same things you did as a kid. or follow the same bad paths others have. or copy the same evil work. so make sure you teach your kids right, after God's way in the Bible. And remember it has to be out of love your instructing them. because if it's not out of love then what do they do? They build up anger and hate inside them about it against you. and then they tell worldly friends and people there age with same problems and it supports the same evil thinking of rebelling against parents rule. now that will normally happen anyway but if you pray with them make sure they know you love them. they won't side with there friends instruction. and more and more they will listen to you more. Help them to see what happens when certain rules aren't kept. and the Dangers of them. like different high physical sports. or running thru the kitchen and such. those things that aren't really listed as sins but are to be kept because we know if you do them you can get hurt. now you know as well as I do that kids side with kids so this isn't something new and unheard of by you. and yes I know not all kids are the same. Kids who read this, Understand your parents do love you and each bit of instruction they give isn't to make you mad. or push down your thoughts and wants. but to show you what isn't right and the right way of thinking. its love that they teach you holiness. Work for righteousness those who are saved, those who aren't let today be the day you wake up to your lost state and turn to God's wisdom and love. come to him he can save today. know that going by just what you want isn't going to save you. and it's only going to set you on a course to hell. Hell is calling you each day, and God is calling you. see that hell isn't going to wait for your answer it's just going to pull you in. know that also God isn't waiting for your permission. Pray to him, Beg him for forgiveness of your sin. he is mighty to save. All your sin will be washed away by the blood of the Lamb. Hallelujah!

Some of Canada's beginning

This is some history work, I've found to be of interest.


Just because Canada exists doesn't mean it ever was founded. In fact, the whole notion of founding a country is alien to Canadian experience. Founding is something undertaken by a Machiavellian "new Prince," but Canadian sovereignty has devolved historically from the very old British crown. The Americans and the French, with their fancy republican ways, speak easily enough about their founding fathers - Washington, Madison, Robespierre, Marat and all the rest. Canadians don't.

True, we use the same patriarchal language and speak of the fathers of Confederation, but nobody talks about the fathers of Canada, which indicates clearly enough that Confederation was an episode in Canada's evolution, not a brand new beginning. A few intellectuals might indulge in loose talk about the Canadian founding, but they ought to know better.

Usually the act of founding is accompanied by a heavy traffic in high-minded ideas intended to make the new citizens feel good about the violent things they are doing. Truths are held to be self-evident. The founders promise liberty, equality and sisterhood, or peace, bread and other people's land. None of that has ever happened in Canada, though political parties, such as the New Democrats or Reform, have staged founding events to haul themselves into existence.

Unfounded though Canada is, our early political life was not hostile to ideas. They were not expressions of grand new principles but, as contemporary politicians would have said, embodied "well known" ideas. They were well known because they were part of a tradition the origins of which were discreetly shrouded in the mists of time. Chief among them were the principles of parliamentary government and of liberalism. They remain important today. Indeed, many of our difficulties, as well as our successes, are a direct reflection of the extent to which we have maintained liberal and parliamentary government, or drifted away from it.

At the closing of the first session of the first parliament of Upper Canada in 1792, Governor John Graves Simcoe reminded his advisors, "that this province is singularly blest, not with a mutilated constitution, but with a constitution which has stood the test of experience, and which is the very image and transcript of that of Great Britain."

The sentiments were recalled in the British North American Act of 1867, when Canada received "a Constitution similar in Principle to that of the United Kingdom," and, in a more muted way, in the 1982 constitution as well.

In fact, parliamentary government in North America began long before the American Revolution. In its primitive form, elected assemblies could not control the executive. After the publication of Lord Durham's famous Report, the course toward responsible government and today's parliamentary institutions was set, at least in eastern Canada: the Crown is advised by a council that is supported in an assembly that in turn raises and spends money. Parliamentary government is finely balanced between executive decisiveness and the need for prudent and public justification of policy before the sceptical eyes of a "loyal opposition", which is also a government-in-waiting.

Responsible government, parliamentary government properly speaking, came to the old colonies of British North America around the middle of the nineteenth century. On the prairies, however, it was delayed "for the purposes of the Dominion" until 1930, when the provinces gained control over resource revenues. The timing could not have been worse. A decade of severe deflation, followed by the massive centralization of wartime, meant that political leaders in the West were deprived of practical education in the ways of parliament that their colleagues in the east had experienced for a least a generation before 1870.

In consequence, while liberalism in the West has been robust, it is also often extra-parliamentary. From the nineteenth-century agrarians to today's Reform Party, populist liberalism has mounted a serious challenge to the conventions of parliament. When sovereignty is thought to be vested in "the people" and not in the crown, the implications for cabinet, the executive and for the assembly are huge. Populist measures - the initiative, referendum and recall, for example - are in fact incompatible with parliamentary government. You can have one or the other, not both.

As a result, the populist liberalism of Canada's west has been a recipe for distress. Sometimes it has been dismissed as a reflection of the unwillingness of Parliament in Ottawa to respond to the interests of Westerners. From the National Policy of Sir John A. Macdonald to the National Energy Programme of Pierre Trudeau, evidence to support this view is not hard to find. But more than interests are involved. Injured pride, not neglected interests, lies behind the ambivalence of many Westerners towards parliamentary government and "Ottawa."

Pride matters. Indeed, human beings are especially proud when they rise above their interests, which is why the pride of Westerners is especially insulted when the beneficiaries - easterners for the most part - are so palpably ungrateful.

In so many ways Quebec is a mirror image of the west. There "Ottawa" carries the same ambivalent symbolic charge, but for quite different reasons. In Quebec, the levers of parliamentary power have been energetically grasped, but diverted to distinctly non-liberal purposes.

It is useful to recall that in Quebec liberalism came ashore with the soldiers of General Wolfe in 1759. In those days, its most important element was freedom of religion, which opened the way for non-Roman Catholic and often English-speaking traders to settle in the newly acquired colony and to prosper. Once again the effect of this infusion of liberal enterprise led to the recommendations of Lord Durham. But many French-Canadians were less interested in individual liberty than in sheltering their community from the malign outside forces that the entrepreneurial English liberals seemed to represent. This is why Durham's name is still mud in Quebec.

The same religious solidarity of the eighteenth-century resistance to liberalism could be detected in the writings of Abbé Lionel Groulx fifty years ago. With the massive and rapid secularization brought about by the Quiet Revolution, the words changed, but the music remained the same. The elegant Hegelian rhetoric of a sovereigntist such as the late Fernand Dumont, for whom every distinct society achieves fulfillment and proper form as a state, or the claims in favour of "deep diversity" made on behalf of Quebec by a federalist such as Charles Taylor, resonate with the same anti-liberal communitarian survivalism pioneered by François-Xavier Garneau a century and a half ago. Garneau's long poem, Louise, as his multi-volume Historie du Canada, were as much a littérature de combat as anything from the pens of contemporary Quebec nationalists, whether sovereigntist or not. Plus ça change. . . .

In fact, many things have changed since the days of Simcoe, Durham and Macdonald, but the principles they espoused can still be detected without too much effort. And yet, pure parliamentary liberalism has never worked in Canada. All Canadians, and especially those in the unmovable centre of the country, Ontario, should be grateful for the impurities supplied by the communitarian realities of Quebec and the extra-parliamentary populism of the west. They provide the colour and flavour to Canadian politics, the leaven that makes federalism work, even though it violates not a few of the explicit intentions of the fathers of Confederation.

Canada has been informed from its beginnings, back in the aftermath of the American Revolution, by two principles: liberalism, and responsible or parliamentary government. After Confederation, the Canadian version of responsible government was modified by the addition of a heavy dose of federalism. These are, I believe, the principles that will guide Canadians into the next century.

Liberalism means many things. In my first article, I referred to Lord Durham's splendid Report. Bob Rae referred to it in his first article as well, but did not praise it. According to him, it was "disastrous, but fortunately short-lived." Au contraire! It was a splendid piece of work and so filled with of foresight that even today it informs Canadian political life at its best. To see why, we must understand Durham's liberalism on its own terms, removed from what present-day liberalism has become.

Lord Durham was a confident, strong, and spirited liberal. He believed liberalism was worth defending and was eager to criticize its enemies. Conventional readings of the Durham Report praise the author for recommending responsible government, but criticize his proposal to assimilate French-speaking colonists. In these days of official bilingualism and semi-official multiculturalism, this looks intolerant, and -- because contemporary liberals can tolerate anything but intolerance -- to some it looks illiberal as well.

But consider the circumstances in which Durham found himself. Following the Rebellion of 1837, he was faced with a "fatal feud" between the French- and the English-speaking colonists of Lower Canada. He also had to consider the dissatisfaction with British rule in the other colonies. Only by adapting to a common North American way of living, he believed, could French-speakers enjoy genuine liberty and equality. Thus did he advocate equality of opportunity and British constitutional practices for all colonists. Thus too, his liberalism: According to Durham, no religious cult, no clan, no caste, no nation, no collective, no faction, and no king, should usurp the right to legislate on behalf of others.

Existing practices, Durham was convinced, would ensure that "the great part" of French-speakers would remain "labourers in the employ of English capitalists," and so poor, dependent and resentful. He was not in error. The French-speaking colonists did not, he said, wish to "remain stationary", but had been held back by a misguided policy that both permitted immigration of aggressive English-speaking entrepreneurs to Quebec and maintained the old seigneuries. Because the seigneuries could not easily be sold, the French-speakers' economic competitiveness was reduced. Regardless of whether British policy was inspired by a goodhearted desire to maintain the noble but vanishing life of the ancien regime, or by prejudice against the Catholic and French inhabitants of the colony, the result was identical: the English-speaking minority prospered while the majority of French-speakers did not. It was a recipe for strife. It was also the reason the colonists on both sides argued in terms of "race." That is, the English-speakers sought to protect their group privileges, and the French-speakers challenged them on the same grounds.

Durham was also perhaps the first to notice the mauvaise foi of nationalist rhetoric. It was designed not to resist assimilation to a liberal, British political order, but to protest the exclusion of French-speakers from the prosperous, liberal society of the English-speaking merchants. Durham therefore opposed legal protection for a "distinct society" in Lower Canada - he called it a society of ancient virtue - because, like the "separate but equal" institutions of the American South, it violated his faith in equality of opportunity.

Much like the sovereigntists today, the Patriote rebels of 1837 were not as dedicated to preserving the ancient virtues and cultural traditions of their ethnic garrison as is sometimes assumed. Although they invoked nationalist sentiments to justify their position, their appeal to the pre-modern and pre-liberal habitants was intended to gain electoral support — a thoroughly modern, liberal objective — in order to effect liberal reforms against the discriminatory laws supported by the English-speaking faction. The Patriotes were moved by ambition, not nostalgia.

Likewise today's sovereigntists, no less than today's federalists, share liberal political habits. This is why the sovereigntists become so irritated when their opponents criticize their pure laine rhetoric as ethnocentric, and worse. And yet, like the Patriotes of 1837, they do make archaic and anti-liberal appeals against, for example, "money and the ethnic vote," to use the unforgettable phrase of Jacques Parizeau.

In recommending equal opportunity for all the colonists, Durham's message was simple: wherever ethnic, linguistic, or religious differences are politically institutionalized, there one finds injustice. This liberal principle has endured in Canada because it guarantees the dignity of all citizens, whatever language they speak. That is what makes Lord Durham such a great liberal, and why his Report remains an enduring statement of Canadian liberalism.

In the context of Durham's arguments rightly understood, it is correct to observe, as Mr. Rae did last week, "Canada is a federation, not just a nation, and that says it all." It doesn't quite say it all, but it says a great deal: We are a "political nation," to use Cartier's formula in the Confederation Debates, and we are a federation. It is not, however, "cookie-cutter" federalism, as Mr. Rae has suggested, to treat the provinces as formally equal. Acknowledging the reality of equal provinces has become a political necessity, largely for the same reasons Durham made plain as day in his Report. A liberal society permits variety, indeed, requires variety for its survival. Federalism, a mode of governance that enhances liberal "experiments in living", is the institutional expression of variety concentrated.

Today few would dispute that Quebec is more distinct from PEI than Saskatchewan is from Manitoba, but the two prairie provinces are not cookie cut-outs either. Here is where the former premier of Canada's most populous province is too timid in his understanding of what federalism can do for diversity in Canada.

There are good reasons for Quebec to take pride in its own language laws, and even its own sign laws, whatever English-speakers in British Columbia might think. By the same token, there is no reason Saskatchewan should not take pride in its own gun laws, regardless of what the good burghers of Montreal might think. Likewise, Alberta can take pride in its own health laws, despite the disapproval of the bien pensants of Toronto. B.C. would certainly take pride in formulating its own salmon laws.

That, after all, is the point of federalism. It encourages the kind of variety that is both the foundation of liberal society and its fullest expression. Quebec's sign laws, no less than the existence of Nunavut, are experiments. In both places, citizens are able to use local or regional government for their own purposes, to organize their common life without being intimidated by a remote and massive central government, and to take pride in their achievements. Federalism encourages these liberal experiments by promoting government that is not just responsible, but also responsive.

As Canadians head into the new millennium, they can be sure that new political necessities will require new political experiments. And they can be confident that the tested principles of liberalism, responsible government and federalism are equal to the challenge. No I didn't write this, and back then liberal wasn't what it is today. Ok today wasn't as bad as I thought the rest would be

The Rest of Today was really fun, I got to work with my dad on chopping wood and stacking it, as well as cleaning things up, soccer afterward with chris nate and my dad. that was kinda insanely funny, I mean its messing things up on purpose trying new ideas of kicking it way out of the air. Suddenly Chris, or I would come flying out of no where and hit the ball out of the air into the net, or really off into some other direction. we really need to work on our aim, it was soooo horrible. Nate would randomly launch it in a weird direction. I would mess up my air shot. or Chris and I would go into long fighting fests. lol I know this is short but I just wanted to show that it wasn't all bad today.

Today has to be the worst disgrace of Canada and God "I've" seen

Okay today was not good... What was good was the praying we had, and the fact that people read the signs.. but.. HOW can u possibly do that to the Canadian Flag. they changed the red for the rainbow on each side of the Flag. plus they had shirts for it saying this is what True love is. Not to mention they took the song O Canada for there own. saying that this fully backs us up. DO THEY NOT KNOW WHAT CANADA WAS BASED ON???? they said our signs are soooo hateful, but they purposely stood and said hallelujah God bless. how does that make any sense....... They want God to bless but not obey him. They think there serving him but don't want his Word... Talk about hard to love them..... But Come on, Adding Canada into there works, as if it's something to be proud about. what there doing is this "It's a feeling I like doing, so lets make it something to press as legal and has to be so that we are loving and Equal". why don't they take any feeling they like doing and press to make it legal. Like people like to steal, live for self, they like drugs. does that mean those who can't stop doing it have to press and make it legal so we are this so called "Free Nation" that we are all "Equal"... Bah redefining sin is all there doing. Parents, Don't let your kids go into this world untaught. Love them, teach them, Instruct them in the ways of God. Youth don't fall for the sin of homosexuality. and those that are taught right work with your friends. those around you. if we want to save this generation we need the right way taught.

No Such Thing as Slowly Down

Today wasn't the easiest day for me, but then again my normal mind would say to keep going anyway and *then* I end up stressing my self out more when its not something I like doing. at the time of pain I normally act as if I only have to stop if someone asks me to do something, not if I'm trying to please boredom by biking or exploring. but if I *Have* to do it then I try to back away.

Well, now that I finished sounding like a complete whiner, of which you are probably all tired of hearing from me. I can explain the day in more detail.


Last night the normal happened. I was told at 9 pm that we are going on a hike Saturday, I ask when and all I get is we don't know yet. Then by morning I'm supposed to get up early so we can leave at 9:30. No I wasn't told that time till it was to late for me to get ready. now I wasn't the only reason for us leaving late. but I'm not going to say any names. On the trip Nate explained a bunch of things about his radio.... well.... i only got like half of it. and then he showed me how it isn't smart to recharge my mp3 player with the battery i had in it. It says right on the side, may explode or leak if recharged... *phew* .... Chris almost got hit 2 times on the ride there once we entered Ottawa. The Hike wasn't the same as the Youth Group hikes. No racing after Ben to keep him with the group. no slowing down to ask parents for some water. no such thing as short way. you know all those things that make the youth hike what it is. :) We Climbed King mountain. walked around Pink lake, and stood at the different look outs along the sides. to avoid cig smoke above I climbed down each look out and stayed on the side of it. then came back up to the surprise of some people. Then what we had when we got home was a cook out, in which I think I outdid my normal meal..... I must of had more then half of a 2 liter bottle of rootbeer. almost around the same time... meaning I don't feel to good.... kinda like touch my stomach and I will probably hurl... "note to self: don't pick something off the ground with a full stomach of carbonated drink".


Now that everyone is gone I would be able to think more, but I've already written a post so I think I'm done. Good Night. Hopefully mine won't be a exploding night....

Not Sure Anymore

Because of how I have been used of the lord to others online and also thru books, I'm starting to wonder if a missionary might be a better thing for me to head for. I've been praying and reading on it. studying what I know and more into the Word now then I ever have been. But what ever God has for me I will be content and live for him.


More and more of my days seem to be taken up with something else. I don't think I have had a day for my self in months. and due to many things on my mind. Work, Families spiritual condition, my future for God, friends needing me, people to witness to. Pray that I keep a good mind thru all this and don't try doing something without thinking first. the song keeps popping into my mind.

I am not skilled to understand what God hath willed, What God hath planned, I only know at his right hand is one who is my Saviour.

When people look into the Word what do they see. I think on that when I go to church and see someone new. I think what could God do for them, what do they think of the singing of the praying, of this Holy book being preached. how are we a witness to them. do we show as a Godly example? do other see Christ living in us. when a Christian looks into the word what do u see. I see his Holy book opened which was so wonderfully kept and bought for our teaching. I have been reading thru proverbs a good bit on wisdom. thru these readings God has renewed that mind of his word for it says, the Wise man hears instruction and the foolish turnth away. I had before in my mind that (I've heard these things before or I'm only hearing the same thing over and over) But God used this conference used these readings, that I'm hearing it moreso. He's speaking to me in a great way that makes me want to sing more and more. last night was a great blessing of his power in songs. i woke this morning at 5:30 not knowing why. but the only thought that came to mind without even trying was singing to my self, was praying, I had dreams before hand of God doing a mighty work in all of us. each of us praising him thru the whole day. and if it was my choice I would extend the conference another week. I've removed the web browser from my computer and I'm keeping my time on games and things to a small amount. also I've removed any games that have any aspect of magic in it, music that I shouldn't listen to. and also dealing with things that have been bothering me in a more "God's in control and head of my life" kind of way. I have faith and hope of revival coming and also that we will be used. (those of our youth) in a mighty way for God.

One more into the fold, One more to His timing, One more congregation to praising.

About 5 months ago I had the pleasure to witness to someone online in which they asked many questions to me concerning Hell, Heaven, God's mercy, and who and what sin is. About one week ago this person has come to know the Lord!! I'm continuing to witness to them and teach them more things. This person like sucks information all in really quickly.

Another person who was a Christian, who I've had biblical conversations and has show to be a christian. since i have been getting away from the computer the more often and left something that was taking a good bit of my time. he said that the lord has used me to show him to also use his time better and planning his days out for the Lord more. praise the lord.

Also for those who think I'm only wasting time on the computer playing games, no i am not. I spend most of my day witnessing to people. and i know God is using it. Yes I am planning my days out better too.


The Conference is going quite well. and i know God is moving. with us and i think it was planned good. Pastor David, and Pastor Scott. have been preaching and I've enjoyed it a good bit. I am praying and hoping that God will do a great change in our lives and quicken us.

How His kindness yet pursues me
Mortal tongue can never tell,
Clothed in flesh, till death shall loose me
I cannot proclaim it well.

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

O that day when freed from sinning,
I shall see Thy lovely face;
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace;
Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
Take my ransomed soul away;
Send thine angels now to carry
Me to realms of endless day.
